This month’s round-up of photographs from our Pathfinders community takes us around the globe, from the mystical Giant’s Causeway in Ireland to sensuous sand dunes in Abu Dhabi and ice cliffs in Iceland.
Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland
‘I’d wanted to visit the Giant’s Causeway for as long as I could remember and it certainly lived up to the hype. According to legend, the hexagonal columns are the remains of a causeway built by Irish giant Finn MacCool. If you visit as the sun is setting, you’ll have the entire place almost to yourself.’ – Rebecca, @awayfromtheoffice.
Why we like it: The soft water and warm light make this place live up to the mythical legend of its origins. Waiting for the crowds to dissipate not only gives this image the idyllic setting we all crave – it also put the photographer there at the right time of day: the golden hour.
San Francisco, USA

‘While San Francisco boasts a world-class culinary scene across a hodgepodge of eclectic neighborhoods, visitors are also treated to the city’s picturesque surroundings. As dawn broke, I was enchanted as the sun accentuated the iconic orange vermilion of the Golden Gate Bridge. From afar, the turbulent bay and the bustling city appeared tranquil.’ – Nick Alvarez, @berealtravel.
Why we like it: This image has beautiful colours and makes excellent use of the rule of thirds and leading lines. The bridge leads our eye into the image and then the skyline and horizon line keep it moving.
Valle dei Templi, Sicily
‘Walking through the Valley of the Temples took us back over 2000 years to when Sicily was ruled by the ancient Greeks. I love the contrast of the fallen Icarus statue with the majestic Temple of Concordia in the background. The archaeological site was such an inspiration for my children, who are budding historians.’ – Katy Clarke, @untoldmorsels.
Why we like it: History and art collide. The juxtaposition of the temple with the broken statue gives us much to ponder as we think about ancient civilizations… we wish we could be wandering among those ruins as well.
Abu Dhabi, UAE

‘Abu Dhabi is best known for its glittering skyscrapers, but the desert is equally stunning. I stayed there for two days and loved the way the curves of the sand dunes looked against the straight lines of the buildings.’ – A Lady in London, @aladyinlondon.
Why we like it: Layer upon layer of desert sandcastle and dunes makes us feel like we are hopping from one oasis to another in this image.
‘I think the adrenaline is still pumping here! Today was all about realising dreams. I came to Iceland for adventure; I wanted a challenge, I wanted to do something I’d never done before. That’s why I wanted to go ice climbing: to really push myself to the limit. Exhilarating. Exhausting. Unforgettable.’ – Macca Sherifi, @backpackermacca.
Why we like it: Talk about a rush. There seems to be nothing but ice cliffs in this image except for a snippet of sky and two climbers making their way to the top. Our earth is so beautiful and sometimes you have to challenge yourself to do the seemingly impossible to see all of her beauty.
